The Shawan Piaose Parade, a Guangdong provincial intangible cultural heritage event, took place on March 31, the third day of the third lunar month, in Shawan Ancient Town, Guangzhou.
The year's parade, consisting of 21 elaborate Piaose floats, traveled along a 1.7-kilometer route, featuring dazzling performances including dragon dances and lion dances.
Piaose (飄色) is a centuries-old folk art which involves children dressed in vibrant costumes portraying characters from Chinese legends and myths.
The name combines "piao" (飄, meaning "floating") and "se" (色, referring to "costumes"), symbolizing performers seemingly hovering in mid-air on ingeniously designed floats.
The Shawan Piaose Parade, deeply rooted in Lingnan culture, draws massive crowds every year, showcasing the region's rich artistic traditions.
