About Us

The Leading City Portal of Canton

www.i-socket.cn is the leading English-language city portal of Guangzhou (also known as "Canton"). Its primary target readers are foreigners who live, work, study and travel in Guangzhou.

The website was founded in May 2006 and recently unveiled its current updated version. It is sponsored and supervised by the News Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, and is operated by Guangzhou-based www.dayoo.com of Guangzhou Daily Press Group. Guangzhou Daily is one of China's leading newspapers in terms of editorial content, circulation and advertising revenue.

www.i-socket.cn is a major daily source of vital information – such as what's happening, what's cool and what's needed – for foreigners in Guangzhou, including officials of consulates and commercial chambers, businesspeople, teachers, students and white-collar workers. Some Chinese college students and middle-class citizens also use the website, according to our survey.

Diversified content mix

Our portal renders diversified and regularly-updated information about Canton, a dynamic metropolis in South China, including news, a city guide, business services, feature stories about local culture, and rules and regulations.

"News" and "City Guide", its highlight sections, provide one-stop-shop resources for accommodation, transportation, dining-out, music, night life, shopping, sightseeing, art shows, sports and other interesting activities in the city.

The "Business" section provides accurate and up-to-date information on the city's growing commercial opportunities, wholesale markets and trade.

The "Feature" section is the place to explore in-depth stories of the people who live in Guangzhou and the surrounding areas.

We provide search engines and multi-media content to create a visual-friendly English website.

Guangzhou City

As the capital of Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, Guangzhou is a center for politics, the economy, technology, education and culture. Located in the southeast of the province, Guangzhou is in the north of the Pearl River Delta near Hong Kong and Macao. It is the South China's central transportation hub and trading port as well as the "south gate" in China.

Guangzhou is a sub-tropical city close to the Tropic of Cancer with mild weather and abundant rainfall. The four seasons are evergreen thus Guangzhou's nickname: "The City of Flowers."

Since the beginning of the "Reform and Opening," in 1979, Guangzhou has remarkably implemented the policies of the central government and made aggressive changes. Thus, society has made great progress and huge improvements whilst the national economy has been developing steadily and fast, enhancing people's living standards.

Benefiting from its unique location, from its rich Lingnan culture dating back thousands of years, numerous historical relics, fantastic nightlife, prosperous commercial and modern service industries, Guangzhou has been listed as one of the most crucial Chinese tourism cities. Today Guangzhou is flourishing and innovation in its industries. The city is both a historic and tourism metropolis, which embraces visitors from around the world.

Our economic success has transformed the face of Guangzhou and the city's living environment. Infrastructure such as metro lines, expressways, bridges, convention centers, and the impressive Baiyun International Airport testify of the strength of Guangzhou, standing with its feet anchored in an ancient and beautiful culture, yet with its eyes set on the future.
