Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou has recently made the list of national key museums, alongside other 14 selectees, including Capital Museum in Beijing, Hebei Museum in Shijiazhuang and Shanxi Museum in Taiyuan. The Guangzhou-based museum is among the latest four sites to be endowed with the glory.

The museum has opened to the public since 1959. Covering an area of 77,000 square meters, it boasts more than 320,000 pieces/sets of collections and receives over 4 million visitors on a yearly basis.

During these years, Guangdong Museum has been putting efforts into several aspects, such as construction of collections, display and exhibitions of cultural relics, public education, academic research, as well as digital management and communications.

Meanwhile, it has built up an education service system to fit visitors from all age groups. Holding a lead at amounts of annual activities and participants, it has won a number of national awards by virtue of its education events and volunteer projects.

For years, the museum has held multiple activities at national and provincial levels about public culture and education to initiate a people-oriented system, which aims to shape a platform for life-time learning.

As one of the three pilot venues for national smart museums, Guangdong Museum has forged a brand-new form consisting of management, services and protection, providing a unique pattern for the industry.
